MINDRIOT.mt Alternative / Co. Cork

Editor Notes:

MINDRIOT have been knocking around in one form or another since 1992, with the band falling out, splitting up and eventually getting back together on more than one occasion! But it’s all water under the bridge now and the band are back and rocking once more under the slightly revised moniker, MINDRIOT.mt.

They have a number of other releases from the bands earlier forays as MINDRIOT… “Angel Town” (1992/93), “Swallow” (1994/95), before the band split for a time. Then around 1996/97 the band reformed for a while before going their separate ways again and eventually reforming again in the early 2000’s, with a further run of release, “The Awakening”, “Us And Them” and “Angels May Fall” (2006). But they are fully promoting their current run of tracks in favour of their earlier back catalogue of tracks, which they have completely left behind them.

They recently stepped up their game again and worked with accomplished engineer and producer Ciaran O’Shea (CYCLEFLY) on their latest self-titled EP. The Cork hard-rock veterans debuted their single ‘Fire’ at a launch gig in the Bodhrán in Mitchelstown, Cork. And also unveiled their new “Mindriot” EP at the 2014 Indiependence festival in their hometown of Mitchelstown, where they played the Beer Hall Stage.

2016 saw the band release their album “Brothers” which again features all the tracks on the EP plus six more new offerings. And in early 2016 founding member Liam O’Rourke left the band. This led to guitarist Michael Hoye switching over to bass duties. And in late 2018 Steven Bartak stepped down from the drum stool due to an ingoing injury to be replaced by Jamie Stanton. Recordings for a second album were started and some singles were released, but come January 2020 the band was shelved.

Both Hoye and Gorry have since teamed up with guitarist Dave Fogarty and drummer Patrick Donnelly during 2020 to for new outfit, MY OWN CULT.

And as of Summer 2021, Fogarty has also joined a re-vamped version of MINDRIOT-mt with his THOUGHTS OF RUIN bandmate Niall O’Brien on drums, alongside mainstays Gorry and Hoye.

Official biography from the bands facebook…

“MINDRIOT originally formed in 1992 and were influenced by bands of the time ranging from Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Kerbdog, Life of Agony and everything in between. Being very close childhood friends, over the years MINDRIOT have broken up, gotten back together, loved each other, hated each other and have done all the things you envisage a rock band to have done which is reflected honestly in their unique brand of rock. The members of MINDRIOT (Tony Gorry – Vocals/Lead Guitar, Mike Hoye – Rhythm Guitar, Liam O’Rourke – Bass and Steven Bartak – Drums) have amassed a vast amount of experience from playing at Oxygen Music Festival to supporting such acts as The Stunning, Juliet Turner, Bagatelle, Jack L to name a few.”
