Dissent Hardcore / Co. Antrim

DISSENT were a Hardcore band from Portrush, Northern Ireland active between 1997 and 1999. They played around Ireland number of times including gigs with STAMPIN’ GROUND and MEDULLA NOCTE. They recorded four demos including a four track MISFITS tribute between 1998 and 1999.

Their first 6-track ‘The Age Of Dissent’ demo was recorded and released in early 1998 with it’s follow-up, the self-titled 5-track ‘Dissent’ demo being released towards the end of that same year. A line-up change followed after the release of their ‘Dissent’ demo with Chris Scullion and Damo Donaghy joining on bass and drums respectively. It was this line-up that recorded the 5-track ‘Point Blank’ at Blastfurnace Studios in Derry. This Demo EP was actually released twice. First released in February 1999. Then quickly remixed by Gareth and Paul in March 1999. The remixed version was released in May 1999 and includes two extra tracks, ‘Flatlined’ and ‘M.D.K.C.’, both recorded live in Blastfurnace as part of a sound engineering course in early May 1999. They also recorded four MISFITS tracks that were included on an official tribute compilation called ‘Here Come The Dead… A Tribute To The Misfits Vol.2’.

The track ‘Aurora Nine’ from their ‘Dissent’ demo was also featured on the ‘THIRD ALTERNATIVE’ Comp on SBS Records. The comp was released in September 1998 and was was aimed at promoting the talents of nine un-signed Irish bands. It also featured the bands THROAT, GARDENIA, NOVICE, FINE AMERICAN BLEND, PEPPER BOOK, LOWEND, VACCINE, and CRACKING HALOS.
